About the event
Historic Babylon Trail: Is located in the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, northeast of Leeds, Utah. This ride is a 9-mile loop and is rated difficult. Time expected in the saddle 3.5-4 hours at a quarter horse walk. There are several technical sections of sandstone rock with several high step-downs, bush whacking through deep sand and tamarisk, and several river crossings with steep embankments. Experienced riders and horses are recommended.
This is a beautiful trail that has a little bit of everything! It connects to other trails and takes you to several wonderful landmarks. Please be tacked and ready to ride at 10:00 a.m., pack a lunch.
Keep on eye on the weather, we will not ride if there are high winds or rain. We will cross the Virgin River several times and will cancel if the water levels and/or volume is too high.
Directions to the Toquerville Mine Trailhead:
***Note*** They are currently doing construction on the Leeds road north of town just before the turnoff to Babylon, the road is down to one lane with a traffic light. Another option is to drive further north on I-15 to the Toquerville Exit 27 and then travel south, three miles on the frontage road back towards Leeds and the Babylon road/900 North Road then travel 1.9 miles to the Toquerville Mine Trailhead. Trailhead will then be on your left.
A portion of the Babylon road is a hill with sand and you may need a 4-wheel drive truck when leaving after the ride. Do not bring a large LQ trailer. 3/4 Horse trailers and moderate size livestock trailers are fine. Considering combining trailer if possible.
Please RSVP to receive important updates and so we know who is planning to join this ride, thanks!
